The Northwestern Pacific Railroad
Lifeline of the Redwood Empire

A Unique Membership Program hosted by Angelo Figone

Noted railroad historian and author Angelo Figone will present a fascinating program on the “boom and bust years” of the Redwood Empire’s “Lifeline” railroad. His talk will feature highlights from his recently-released book chronicling the 50-year history of the NWPRR from 1951 until 2001.

From the early decisions by owner Southern Pacific Railroad to invest in the railroad’s infrastructure to the ongoing challenges of maintaining “the most costly railroad in the United States,” Angelo will detail the efforts and rewards during the decades. The talk includes oral history interview excerpts which add credibility to the narrative of events. The opportunity to hear about an incredible enterprise and to see unique period photographs is not to be missed!

Following the talk, the author and presenter will be available to sign books for those who wish to buy or bring their copies.

The program is open to the public, and doors open at 7:30 pm, with the program starting at 8:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. The program is free, although donations are welcome.

The Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society will also have an assortment of treasures (DVDs, caps, shirts, mugs and maps) available for sale.

The San Rafael Elks Club is located at 1312 Mission Avenue, San Rafael. The program runs approx. 2 hours overall with intermission. Plenty of FREE parking available up the hill behind the building.
