Elks Care, Elks Share, Are YOU an Elk?
So you’ve been thinking about joining the San Rafael Elks Lodge – What are your first steps?
If you know a current Elk member (men and women)- contact them and have them bring you to the lodge to experience the social evenings, or to an event to experience the fun. If you don’t know a member come by the lodge some time when the lounge is open (weeknights 5-9 pm), walk in and introduce yourself to the bar staff – let them know your interested in joining. It’s as simple as that! The lounge is located on the ground floor. Membership forms are available there and after spending some time meeting the other members, just fill out the application (with your sponsor and co-sponsors information) and you are on your way to joining not only the Liveliest Elks Lodge In The Whole Wide World but you’ll be joining one of the most active community charity organizations in the area. The entire process takes a month to six weeks!
Elk Lodges bring so much to their communities. They are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up in a safe supportive environment.
Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
How to Join the Lodge
To join the Elks you must be a U.S. citizen (men and women) who is at least 21 years of age with a belief in God and country. New members are required to be sponsored by a fellow Elk, and reside in the jurisdiction of the San Rafael Lodge. The Elk who sponsors you will usually introduce you to other Elks who may serve as your two other references.

The Elk who proposes you for membership can help guide you through the application process.
1. Manually - After your proposer fills in the required portion, you will be given the Application for Membership. Fill it in, following the instructions and answering all questions. Return the completed application to the lodge office or give to the bartender in the evening.
2. Digitally - ask your sponsor to invite you via elks.org to become a member. You will be sent an online application to complete, this will automatically go to the Lodge Secretary.
Your application will be read at a regular Lodge meeting. You will be contacted (via mail) by our Lodge Secretary with a welcome letter inviting you to our Investigative Committee (interview).
After the interview is concluded, the committee will report to the Lodge concerning your membership. The members will be given a notice not less than 10 days nor more than two months before the vote will be taken.
When the vote is concluded, you will be notified by our Lodge Secretary with a date to return for indoctrination (initiation).
You will also be told during the program the date you will be initiated. Initiation is on the First Thursday of every month.
After initiation as an Elk, you can take part in all meetings and social functions of the Lodge.
If for any reason your application is rejected, you can submit a new application for membership after six months from the date of rejection.
